THE BIG PICURE

A life worth living

We humans need that thing we live for, that thing that brings joy, fills our hearts with love, makes each day meaningful, softens the hard edges. It can be a life with another person or beloved pet. Maybe it’s a purpose that drives us forward or a career that challenges and fulfills. For some, faith is the beacon that illuminates the way forward. It might even be as simple as a feeling we reach for to confirm our existence on this earth matters. Whatever it is, it can’t be truly embraced if there is an absence of self-love.

Over the past six years unexplained neuro-muscular pain, and accompanying fatigue and weight gain, have taken a toll on my physical and mental well-being. With my health under fire – putting all that I live for in jeopardy – I am staring down an empty pipe of self-love. My modus operandi has always been to just push through, be a doer, force myself to be productive, show everyone I am in control, regardless of what I might be feeling inside. Well, the jig is up. My body and mind require a more concentrated focus to revamp how I care for myself, so I am setting out on a journey to bring about lasting change.

Fixed on a vision of total healing I have begun working with a group of healers who each have a different specialty. Collectively we will work to rewire me from the ground up. This blog is where I will share the ins and outs of this journey with the intention of deepening my commitment, cementing my success and perhaps lighting the way for others who are in need of some hope and encouragement.

WELCOME

If we haven’t met yet, I’m Mia Girard Rivera and you’ve landed on my very first blog. For some time now I have leaned into making writing a significant part of my life and find it to be a cathartic exercise I cannot live without. Thank you for meandering through these mind dumps which track a journey I'm on to embrace optimal health as I glide into to my 60's. As I write each post and create the photography and design which give the site life, I am reminded of how fortunate I am to have this opportunity to work with an amazing group of healers and unpick a lifetime of coping behaviors that worked counter-productively to my well-being. My hope is you will garner some kind of joy or personal meaning from the time you spend with me here and perhaps even be inspired to share your thoughts and experiences.
